Our Story

Mackays, the family-run business, has been making world famous marmalades and preserves for over 70 years. We are now the only remaining producer of orange marmalade in the Dundee area of Scotland following the demise of the famous Keiller family who built the first marmalade factory there back in 1797.

Mackays is also one of the few remaining jam manufacturers in Europe to still use the traditional ‘open pan’ method of jam-making which gives our preserves and marmalades their delicious ‘homemade’ taste.

Originally founded in 1938 by the Mackay Brothers, the business was kept in the family until being bought over in 1995. Now run by Paul Grant MBE, the business has grown considerably over the past ten years and currently employs a team of 90 people.

We have won a significant share of the international retail market and today export to 25 countries world wide. Despite our continued growth, we still firmly believe in maintaining the quality control and ethos of our family-run roots in order to achieve the highest standards possible for our customers.
